During 29 to 30 August 2023, ARDHO provided legal advice to teen mother of Kinigi Sector. The Executive Secretary of ARDHO thanked MUHISIMBI Voice of youth organization for the initiative of taking care of teen mother and supporting them and their baby-bons.
He reminded the main objective of the project is to contribute to the reduction of sexual child abuse and teenage pregnancy and other connected child rights violations in Rwanda by raising awareness of young girls to take necessary measure to prevent and fight early pregnancy and helping them to access to justice. He promised to continue good collaboration and provide legal assistance and representation of teen mother hosted by Muhisimbi Center and do accompaniment of teen mothers until they are socio-economically empowered.
ARDHO and Muhisimbi Voice of Youth in Conservation, help them to receive vocational training in sewing and other conservation-related courses, to help them take care of themselves and education of their baby-borns. ARDHO showed them that they are still young and invited to contribute to the development of the Country. They have showed their determination to create confidence in them for a purposeful life and also reminded that they should care to avoid getting new pregnant, which would lead them to face problems and would ruin their lives again.
The activities implemented by ARDHO focused on interactions with teen mothers of Kinigi Sector where the main objective is to sensitize girls to be able to make their own decisions about their bodies and futures, understand the effects of teenage pregnancy, and have access to appropriate healthcare services and comprehensive sexuality education and in case take all necessary measures to do prevention and fighting child defilement and teenage pregnancy. These activities contribute to the reduction of sexual child abuse and teenage pregnancy and other connected child rights violations in Rwanda.
The Second area of intervention during this implementation is to provide legal assistance to victims of child defilement and teenage pregnancy. This activity has been implemented in Kigali City for civil actions on cases of child defilement where our lawyer assisted victims for obtaining damages and compensations between 500,000 to 10,000,000 RWF.
